e-mail attachments

Its our aim to generate Information Security awarness among students so they can participate and build a secure and reliable internet community. My sincere request to all students will be please do not use any of our suggestion or tips for a wrong or unethical reason. All the best !!!

Tips for e-mail attachments

# Never open any attachements from any unknown sender, I always delete the same.

# Try not to send any attachements in the first place, ask your friends also not to do the same.

# Make sure your OS as well as your browser and your mail client shows the file extensions always. So no body can send you .exe or any unwated files.

# Never open any file which has got double extensions. Example swapan.txt.exe

# Don't click on any web link from your email itself, check the required web address in question. All the phising sites use email web link to fool people. Just be sure which link it is. ( See our blog on Phishing)

# Don't accept file from a stranger on a chat room. It can sound very attractive and you would love to have the same, but please don't.

# Don't read too much on the icon that you see on your email, one can create any kind of icon in less than 5 minutes - just be careful.

# There are times you will get an email that your system is virus effected - some very techy name, and will give you a link to download the remedy for the same. Don't fall for it. Its a virus or a trojan which will get downloaded.

That's all for now, do let me know your feedback on the same. You can use the comment or send an email to me at swapan@nettech.in
